Halloween, safe and fun

Halloween, Oregon’s favorite holiday, is only days away. In the face of 2020, what recommendations are there to give?

This year Salem City Police is not organising a Halloween Dress Rehearsal. Although last year’s safety tips for going around the neighborhood still stand. Similarly, the Salem Public Library is not hosting a Haunted House. Nor will the Capital Park Wesleyan Church hold their yearly children-centric harvest party. All events we would otherwise wholeheartedly recommend.

“Are we stuck watching tv then?” And the answer to that question is a resounding: “Hell no!” There is nothing wrong enjoying some scary thrills on a screen, but that is far from the only option available. Trick-or-treating, for many families the most important Halloween experience, is still an the table. And so are other activities to be enjoyed together. To help out, the CDC has made an overview of suggested activities and smart health measures. That way everybody can be safe from COVID-19 and influenza at the same time.

For those enjoying bits of trivia, social media user etymology_nerd has made an overview on how different candies got their names.

Drive-Thru Trick-or-Treat at the Willamette Heritage Center

Give your littles some normal this year with drive-thru trick-or-treating at the Willamette Heritage Center. From noon to 5pm, you can drive through our parking lot where the ‘Candy Crew’ – local businesses, non-profits, and individuals – will pass out candy with 6 foot poles.
