Is your short-term rental compliant?

Five years after Salem created the short-term rental license program, Code Compliance Officers are doing the rounds.

You might have recently received a communication from the City, stating a date when Code Compliance Officers will come around to inspect your short-term rental for compliance with city codes. They will be looking for smoke alarms, egresses and other safety features. This is a good thing. After all, a little upfront investment can save one from a costly liability lawsuit.

Property owners will have a generous 6 months to repair and upgrade, where necessary.

Even if you never applied for a license from the City, but make use of platforms such as AirBnb or VBRO, the City knows about your rental spaces. So expect a visit.
